A developer who wants to build a major wind farm in Brown County said Monday it would persevere despite state approval for a competing project in Columbia County.
Invenergy LLC had asked the state Public Service Commission to reject the We Energies project in Columbia County or approve both projects jointly.
Chicago-based Invenergy is seeking state approval for the Ledge Wind Energy Project, which would include 100 turbines south of Green Bay in the towns of Glenmore, Wrightstown, Morrison and Holland.
It would be the first large-scale wind farm in Brown County and the largest anywhere in Wisconsin.
The Public Service Commission on Monday approved the slightly smaller Glacier Hills Wind Park, rejecting Invenergy's request to be involved in that development.

We as a country have been brainwashed into thinking that no matter what, anything "green" is good. Well, how can something "green" be bad, you say? Let me explain.
I live in Morrison and will be directly impacted by the Ledge Wind Energy Project. Most of our community is just finding out about this project and it is creating an uproar among the residents. Wind turbines are only about 25-30% efficient. Areas where wind turbines are put up show that property values significantly decline. That does not appeal to me in the least. The setbacks for the wind turbines are currently only 1000 feet away from our homes, businesses and livestock.
Studies show the ill health effects to humans and livestock that are caused by placing wind turbines too close to residents' homes. Wind turbines create noise, low frequency vibrations, and shadow flicker that cause health problems in humans, such as headaches, migraines, nausea, ringing in the ears, and sleep disturbance.
In livestock, reproductive abnormalities, bizarre behavior, decreased production and death have been reported where wind farms have been sited. Stray voltage is causing great problems for dairies; the cows feel the extra voltage in the ground and don't want to lay down, which makes them lame. Farmers near turbines who have their cows autopsied after death find their organs are inflamed. Wildlife usually leave windfarm areas.
Landowners that did sign up to host wind turbines in our community were not told of the negative impacts they will have. In turn, many of these people now want out of their contracts after hearing the facts.
This project is attempting to be rushed through when the majority of the community is opposed to it and want greater restrictions imposed. Most people that do support the wind farms do not even live in or near a wind farm. They have the mentality of "well I'm all for it if it's not in my backyard". The wind energy companies are very good at distributing their propaganda which hides the truth. Well, we are taking a stand and telling people wind farms need to be kept far away from residences, livestock, and wildlife areas. The research is proving them to not be as safe as everyone thought. Why should inefficient energy come at the expense of our very health?
