Dr. Curt Meine Keynote Speaker at Wild Ones Fox Valley 17th Annual Conference
The 17th Annual TOWARD HARMONY WITH NATURE Conference, a day-long seminar on native landscaping presented by Wild Ones Fox Valley. Keynote speaker Dr. Curt Meine, Senior Fellow at Wisconsin's Aldo Leopold Foundation will present “Restoring Native Ecosystems.” Dr. Meine is a distinguished conservation biologist, historian and author and was recently seen as the on-screen guide in the documentary film “Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time” will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Oshkosh Convention Center in Oshkosh.
Dr. Meine’s presentation will point out that the need for restoration of our landscapes, watersheds, communities and ecosystems is now greater than ever, and he will invite us to draw upon Leopold’s legacy to carry it forward with new commitment and new understanding. An expert in ecological restoration, Dr. Meine’s books include “Aldo Leopold: His Life and Work” and “Correction Lines: Essays on Land, Leopold, and Conservation.”
This Wild Ones Fox Valley Area members invite the public to participate in the conference to not only Dr. Meine, but also seven other speakers on the whole spectrum of native plants and natural landscaping topics, as well as vendors and exhibitors and a silent auction. Of special interest will be the kick-off of the Wild for Monarchs Campaign being sponsored by the entire Wild Ones organization throughout the USA.

ECOS-FV monthly meeting, Dec. 1
The purpose of the December 1, 2011 meeting of ECOS-FV will be to discuss the coordination of Earth Week Fox Valley 2012. It is anticipated that this meeting will be relatively short and should be less than an hour in duration. All are welcome to attend. We encourage your input about how we can make Earth Week Fox Valley 2012 successful. ECOS Meets with Town of Menasha Sustain Committee
At the August meeting of ECOS-FV, we discussed the future form of ECOS-FV and what roles and activities its membership would support.
We are happy to report that the outcome of this meeting was:
1) To establish a closer relationship with the Town of Menasha’s Sustainability Committee, blending the community actions of the Town with the educational programs of ECOS and using the broader advertising capacity of the Town to enhance attendance and generate broader community appeal and interest.
2) To maintain the ECOS Blog Site and the Email Information Network as is: Our continued thanks to both Ed Blume and Connie Kanitz for this.

Meet to explore the future of ECOS-FV, Aug. 4, Menasha
The August 4th Meeting of ECOS-FV will explore the potential of the ECOS organization and discuss a consideration of its dissolution in the near future.
We believe we need to hold this discussion as attendance at our educational presentations and planning meetings have been low for quite some time. People seem to have found other ways to obtain information and show their support for sustainable activities and projects in the community.
Yet we also want to highlight that this end can be averted if we have members that want to “take up the torch of the fire soul” and provide the coalition with new energy and direction. The genesis for such a potential renewal lies in the fact that the ECOS organization has strong name recognition in the Valley, a great communication network, a large e-mail base and a well maintained blog site (thanks to Ed Blume at Renew Wisconsin)!
We sincerely hope to see you and hear your thoughts on this important topic…

Plus calculate your carbon footprint and take part in the Compost Relay.

Since the first Conservation Lobby Day in 2005, it has grown from just over 100 citizens to over 500! Each year these citizens from across Wisconsin descend on the Capitol to share their conservation values with their Legislators. As we head into the 5th annual Conservation Lobby Day, there is one thing we can guarantee-when citizens come together to make their conservation values known, legislators listen, and conservation victories soon follow!
The reauthorization of the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund and the passage of the Strong Great Lakes Compact are two great examples of how citizen lobbying resulted in ground-breaking conservation laws.
The participation of local groups and citizens like YOU is incredibly important to the success of Conservation Lobby Day. Every day throughout the state, countless citizens work tirelessly to protect the local land, water, and wildlife.
Conservation Lobby Day is a unique opportunity to share your conservation stories and experiences with legislators and have a huge impact on conservation policies affecting all of Wisconsin.
In 2009-2010, the conservation community will be fighting to:
Preserve Groundwater: Wisconsin's Buried Treasure: manage Wisconsin's groundwater resources to preserve drinking water supplies, lakes, streams, and wetlands.
Stop Global Warming in Wisconsin: address the threats of global warming in Wisconsin through clean, renewable energy jobs and energy conservation.
Restore Conservation Integrity: return Wisconsin to an Independent DNR Secretary and a timely appointment of Natural Resource Board members.
Protect Wisconsin's Drinking Water: protect Wisconsin's drinking water supplies by making sure we safely spread agricultural, municipal, and industrial waste.

Four new priorities for Conservation Lobby Day
From an announcement issued by the Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters:
With a new legislative session comes new opportunities AND new Conservation Priorities! At the 11 Listening Sessions held around the state, local groups and citizens like YOU had a lot to say about which issues should be top priorities. In the end, only 4 can rise to the top.
In 2009-2010, the conservation community will be fighting to make sure:
+ Wisconsin adopts a strong statewide plan to tackle global warming.
+ Wisconsin returns to an Independent DNR Secretary and has timely DNR Board Appointments by the Senate.
+ Wisconsin develops a statewide plan to protect our drinking water.
+ Wisconsin creates standards for safe agricultural, industrial and municipal waste-spreading. . . .
On February 25th, 2009, join citizens from across Wisconsin at the state Capitol to tell legislators that you expect them to vote well on natural resource issues.

In Celebration of Nature, Aug. 22-24, 2008
From the Wild Ones:
IN CELEBRATION OF NATURE, Wild Ones annual meeting and conference, a weekend seminar on native landscaping, will be held for the first time in the Fox Valley Friday through Sunday, August 22-24, 2008. Open to the public, the conference is hosted by national Wild Ones and the Fox Valley Area Chapter of Wild Ones.
Sunday’s Keynote speaker, internationally known naturalist Neil Diboll, owner of Prairie Nursery in Westfield will speak about "What’s on the Horizon? The Future of natural landscaping." Banquet keynote is Dr Gregory Summers, author and professor of environmental history at UW-Stevens Point, will speak on "Environmentalism in the Fox River Valley and the rest of the USA."

IN CELEBRATION OF NATURE, Wild Ones annual meeting and conference, a weekend seminar on native landscaping, will be held for the first time in the Fox Valley Friday through Sunday, August 22-24, 2008. Open to the public, the conference is hosted by national Wild Ones and the Fox Valley Area Chapter of Wild Ones.
Sunday’s Keynote speaker, internationally known naturalist Neil Diboll, owner of Prairie Nursery in Westfield will speak about "What’s on the Horizon? The Future of natural landscaping." Banquet keynote is Dr Gregory Summers, author and professor of environmental history at UW-Stevens Point, will speak on "Environmentalism in the Fox River Valley and the rest of the USA."

Welcome to the inaugural edition of the Living Green Wisconsin E-Newsletter!
The Living Green Wisconsin team would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the newest and what will surely become Wisconsin’s premier networking resource for all things green.
Living Green Wisconsin is launching our program with our first annual expo on September 6 & 7th, 2008 in Oshkosh. The event is open to all businesses the state of that have products and services that save energy, use biodegradable products, utilize recycling, are all natural or organic, deal in sustainable methods, and more!
This is the first phase of what Living Green Wisconsin has set out to do. Shortly following the expo we will be starting a speaker series that will concentrate on various subjects including energy conservation, gardening, commercial and residential construction, pet care and nutrition, landscaping, transportation, and more.
Our website will focus on becoming a directory of statewide organizations and companies that focus on Living Green. The directory will offer a brief description of the company or organization and its contact information and website link.

Several events planned for fall
Beginning October 2nd, and continuing on Tuesdays (October 9, 16 and 23), 4:30 - 6:00 p.m., the Appleton Public Library will be hosting a book/study circle about The Natural Step for Communities.
On October 4th, at 6:30 pm in the lower level of the Menasha Public Library, ECOS-Fox Valley invites the public to a showing of The End of Suburbia: Oil Depletion and the Collapse of The American Dream, the James Howard Kunstler film which many have called the most important documentary in years. This film inspired the founding of ECOS-Fox Valley.
Kunstler will speak at Lawrence University, Appleton, on October 30th. Reviewers have said: "What a hoot. [James Howard] Kunstler is the funniest man alive, and he really had his material polished for this one. I nominate him for prophet status." On October 6th, from 12:00 noon until 4:00, Mosquito Hill Nature Center, Valley Home Builders' Association and ECOS Fox Valley are sponsoring a Green Building Fair showcasing exhibitors and offering educational seminars about building, remodeling, operating or reusing buildings in an ecological and resource-efficient manner. The fair is at Mosquito Hill Nature Center, N3880 Rogers Rd., New London; for more information call Mary Swifka at 920-779-6433.
The Northeast Wisconsin Solar Home Tour is also taking place on this day. For more information about the Tour contact Jim Resick at 920-832-5122.

The event is sponsored by E.S.T.H.E.R., a coalition of Faith Communities engaged in justice ministry, and the Fox Cities Housing Coalition. For more information contact Rev.
