De Pere billboard harnesses the sun

On a partly cloudy afternoon, the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce helped cut the ribbon on Wisconsin's first solar power-generating billboard.

The billboard is along the west side of Highway 41 between Main Avenue and Scheuring Road in De Pere.

"This billboard is now serving two purposes: It's a marketing machine for a business, and it also generates electricity for the public," Don Snyder, general manager of NextMedia Outdoor, said.
